70% chance of rain for Modesto on Thursday

In some parts of Modesto, at least, it looked Tuesday evening as though the rain expected Thursday was going to come early. Perhaps a few drops even fell in your neighborhood, but the Modesto Irrigation District recorded nothing measurable.

The National Weather Service calls for a 70 percent chance of precipitation Thursday – showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are expected in Modesto, possibly more if the thunderstorm develops.

In the meantime, today should be partly sunny with a high near 73. Thursday’s high is expected to be near 69.

The chance of precipitation Thursday night is 50 percent, of less than a tenth of an inch. Friday carries a 20 percent chance of showers, with a high again near 73.

The weekend days are expected to be mostly sunny, with highs near 77. That sounds like ideal weather for those who attend any of the several events on the calendar, including the Family Cycling Festival and Criterium in downtown Modesto, Relay for Life at Johansen High, the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, the Oakdale Chocolate Festival and the Community Safety Saturday event in Turlock.
