Three people injured in two-car crash in west Modesto
Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a driver ran a stop sign, hitting a pickup and crashing into a power pole in west Modesto, authorities said.
An Oldsmobile Bravada was traveling west on Woodland Avenue when authorities say it ran a stop sign at Rosemore Avenue and hit a blue pickup driving south.
A witness saw the driver of the pickup “stop at the intersection, look, pull out, then almost immediately was hit by the Oldsmobile,” said Modesto police Officer Jeff Hopkins.
The Oldsmobile continued west until it hit a power pole on the south side of Woodland.
The pickup was propelled into the front yard of a home at the southwest corner of the intersection.
The front seat passenger in the pickup was not injured and was able to get out, but the driver and a young woman in the back seat were trapped inside.
It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to cut through the pickup’s frame and remove its roof to free them both. They suffered moderate injuries.
Hopkins said the driver of the Oldsmobile appeared to have suffered head injuries.
All three were taken to local hospitals.
