Grammy Award-winning singer Steven Curtis Chapman will be the keynote speaker – as well as performer – on May 15 at this year’s Turlock Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.

The 22nd annual event will be held from 6:15 to 8:30 a.m. at the Assyrian American Civic Hall, 2618 N. Golden State Blvd. in Turlock.

The prayer breakfast is a nondenominational community event first organized in 1994 with a purpose of gathering the community “to pray for families, youth and the leaders of our city, county, state and nation,” according to the event website.

At this year’s breakfast, Chapman will share his story of pain, loss and the unfolding of God’s plan in his life. In 2008, Chapman’s youngest daughter died from injuries sustained in a driveway accident when one of his sons was pulling into the driveway.

According to a news release, Chapman – who also is an adoption advocate – has released more than 20 albums, selling more than 11 million. He’s won five Grammy awards; received 58 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards – more than any other artist in history – including seven for artist of the year; and one American Music Award.

Tickets for the prayer breakfast are $25, available online and at the Salvation Army, Geigers Fine Jewelers, Canal Veterinary Hospital and Majesty Book & Bible.
