Gunfire hurts 6 people; none talk to police
Six people may have been shot in two west Modesto incidents over the weekend, but no one died, none of the victims cooperated with authorities and police made no arrests.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man suffered multiple bullet wounds to his upper torso in a drive-by shooting in the 800 block of Bristlecone Way, and a bullet grazed a 21-year-old man. The first was taken by ambulance to a hospital and will survive.
About 4 a.m., four other young men with nonserious gunshot wounds sought care at a local hospital but refused to tell police where or why the shooting had taken place. People had reported hearing gunshots about a half-hour earlier near Alturas Avenue and Western Way, but police didn’t know if there was a link to the wounded men, Lt. Kelly Scott said.
“It’s kind of tough when victims won’t tell us what happened,” Scott said. “In big cities, it’s fairly common. Now it’s starting to catch up here.”
