Vigil to be held for man shot by off-duty Ceres police officer
The family and friends of Jason Moland, who was shot and killed by an off-duty Ceres police officer, will hold a candle lightvigil in his honor at the park in which he died.
The vigil will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Beyer Park at 3700 Beyer Park Drive.
Moland was shot by officer Thomas Miller in the park on the evening of March 29.
Investigators say Moland pointed what later was determined to be a BB gun at Miller, who was in the park with Moland’s wife.
Miller was released from employment three weeks later, having failed to pass the one-year probation period required of officers at the Ceres Police Department. A criminal investigation by the Modesto Police Department and independent review by the District Attorney’s Office have not been completed.
