A fire badly damaged two buildings at a popular wedding venue in Sonora late Wednesday night.

Some 40 firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection battled the blaze at the Union Hill Inn in the 21000 block of Parrotts Ferry Road, which broke out at about 9:30 p.m.

Firefighters still were on scene Thursday morning doing mop-up.

The affected buildings were the main reception hall and a home, according to the Union Democrat.

The newspaper quoted owner Don Stutzman, who said: “We have a wedding tomorrow. I don’t know how we’ll do it, but we’ll do it. We have a wedding every weekend for the next two years.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
