Man severely burned after apparently setting himself on fire in Riverbank
A 60-year-old man suffered second- and third-degree burns over much of his upper body Wednesday after he apparently set himself on fire at a board-and-care home.
The Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded to Adena Care home in the 2600 block of Patterson Road for a report that a resident was fully engulfed in flames.
Patterson Police Services Sgt. Kevin Davis said the staff smelled smoke and found him on a bench outside the facility.
The fire was extinguished prior to emergency responders’ arrival, but firefighters provided emergency medical care.
An emergency helicopter landed at nearby Rio Altura Elementary School. The man was flown to a hospital with second- and third-degree burns to his chest, head, face and airway.
Davis said investigators did not talk to the man but it appears he set himself on fire.
