Modesto Subaru shares love with Center for Human Services

Modesto Subaru participated in the automaker’s 2014 Share the Love program last winter and selected the Center for Human Services as the dealership’s hometown charity.

Share the Love ran Nov. 20 through Jan. 2 and let Subaru retailers select charities in their communities to be included in a list of organizations shown to new car buyers. Charities selected by buyers received a $250 donation from Subaru of America.

On April 16, Subaru of America joined Modesto Subaru in presenting Center for Human Services’ staff with a check for $18,973.

Kate Trompetter, marketing and public relations director for CHS, said, “General donations like these make such a difference for us, especially when a local company raises the funds on our behalf. This money will go directly to programs for youth and families and make an immediate impact.”

In the past six years, Subaru of America has donated $35 million to a number of charities through the Share the Love campaign.

Christian public servant scholarships

Eight local high school seniors received Christian Public Servants/John L. Hollis scholarships. The scholarships are based on community service in addition to academic achievement, and participation in church and other Christian ministries.

Each will receive $800. The recipients are Ella Grover, Meghan McKenzie, Caleb Saalfeld and Kenneth Severe of Beyer High; Jessica Japka and Matthew Thompson of Enochs High; Kelly Peterson from Big Valley Christian High; and Andrew Knapp of Denair High.

The scholarships are given in memory of Hollis, a former Modesto City Schools board trustee.
