Special surprise at Somerset Middle School assembly

Friday morning, Army Sgt. Gary Helms surprised his daughter, Kaili Helms, during a sixth-grade assembly about heroes held at Somerset Middle School in the Sylvan Union School District. He had not seen her in person in more than a year. Helms is stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., and has served in the military for nine years, according to a news release from the Sylvan district. He has done one tour in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He is on a two-week leave.
