Where: Veterans are in need of transportation to and from medical appointments in Stanislaus County and to Livermore and the Bay Area.

What: VETERANS ADVISTORY COMMISSION MEETING

When: April 27, 5 p.m.

Where: Berg Room, Covenant Village, 2125 N. Olive Ave., Turlock

Info: The commission is looking for participation from interested veterans and family members who can attend the commission meetings. The purpose of the commission is to represent all veterans in Stanislaus County by advising the Board of Supervisors and staff. Members of the public are welcome to attend and are encouraged to volunteer to serve on a strategic priority committee. For more information, call Joe Madden at (209) 914-4764.

Coulterville

What: A LOOK BACK AT THE COULTER FAMILY

When: 3 p.m. May 3

Where: IOOF Lodge, 5030 Main St.

Info: Ed Wade of the Northern Mariposa County History Center will give a presentation on the Coulter family. Wade is a descendent of the family, for which Coulterville was named.

What: MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST

When: May 9, 8 to 11 a.m.

Where: The Old Schoolhouse, Cemetery Street and Broadway

Info: Omelets and the traditional pancake and egg breakfast will be available. A choice of omelets – strawberry, cheese, ham or veggie – or a combo of any two of the latter three, complete with pancakes and fresh fruit, costs $7.50. Eggs cooked to order, all-you-can-eat pancakes, ham or sausage and fruit are $5 for adults, $3 for children, $15 for a family of four (two adults, two children). The Old Schoolhouse, at the corner of Cemetery Street and Broadway in Coulterville, is easy to find, has ample parking and will be open from 8 to 11 a.m. All moms will receive a flower. There will be a raffle for a watercolor painting of violets by local artist Maryanna Kingman.

YESTERYEARS

100 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Theater presented three vaudeville acts, along with three movie programs. The acts were Stan Stanley, the English comedian, in song and dance; Fox and Evans, the two Blackbirds; and the Bell Thrazer Bros., athletes with advanced ideas. The movies were “The Death Dice,” “How Hazel Got Even” and “Fatty’s New Role.” Admission was; 15 cents for balcony seating and 25 cents for lower floor seating.
