Info: The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project presents a screening of the documentary film “DamNation.” Discussion will follow the film presentation. YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: Eighth-grader Sharon Wallace of Oakdale won a local essay contest presented by the Yosemite District, California Library Association. She wrote, in less than 200 words, an essay responding to the question, “Is Reading Necessary in Today’s World?” As the winner, Wallace was the guest at the annual Yosemite conference that was held later in the month in Hanford, Kings County, where the essay was judged against winners from other counties.
