What: DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN MEETING

When: Wednesday, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Where: Stanislaus County Library conference room, 1500 I St.

Info: The Distinguished Young Women of Modesto program is holding a meeting for potential candidates. Topics will include requirements to participate, different aspects of the competition, and the experiences of the local and state competition. What: NEW STUDENT DAY

When: Saturday, 8 a.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus, main auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center, 435 College Ave.

Info: New Student Day offers high school seniors and other prospective MJC students the opportunity to complete the enrollment steps of application, orientation, assessment and educational advising. An informational session for website access and campus tours will be available, as well as special sessions for parents. Attendance and campus parking are free. What: MODESTO GARDEN CLUB SPRING GARDEN TOUR

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Info: This year’s Modesto Garden Club Spring Garden Tour includes seven homes, from the historic Bald Eagle Ranch built by Oramil McHenry in Modesto to six gardens in Riverbank’s River Heights neighborhood. The garden club’s demonstration garden, 622 14th St., also will be open for the event. Tickets, $20 general, $10 children under 10 (no strollers). What: RIVER CLEANUP

When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon

Where: Tuolumne River, at the Seventh Street bridge and Tuolumne Boulevard

Info: Operation 9-2-99 is seeking volunteers to help with cleanup of the Tuolumne River. Volunteers will be asked to remove garbage and debris form the north bank of the river. Volunteers should bring gloves and water and wear sturdy shoes. For volunteers under 18, a parent or guardian needs to sign a liability form. Info: The Calaveras Genealogical Society Spring Seminar will feature Janice M. Sellers, professional genealogist, who will speak about reconstructing a family with almost no information.
