JOB FAIR, VETERANS SUMMIT NEXT MONTH

The 2015 Central Valley Job Fair and Veterans Summit will take place May 7. “This year’s job fair provides an opportunity for job seekers to meet one-on-one with some of the Valley’s largest employers,” Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, said in an email Friday announcing the event. Fair participants may submit job applications to employers, have résumés critiqued by experts, participate in breakout sessions and learn how to potentially start a business. The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club, 819 Sunset Ave., Modesto. Veteran admission will begin at noon, and general admission at 12:30 p.m. Employers on hand will include E.&J. Gallo Winery, Blue Diamond Growers, Lawrence Livermore National Labs, BNSF Railway Co., UC Merced, Morning Star Co. and Lock-N-Stitch. FOOTHILL HORIZONS HOSTS OPEN HOUSE

Get a glimpse at where Stanislaus County students still go to sixth-grade camp during the Foothill Horizons Outdoor School open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 at 21925 Lyons Bald Mountain Road, near Sonora. Find directions at www.stancoe.org/SCOE/iss/outdoor-ed. Entry and parking are free. The facility has operated for more than 60 years, teaching generations of students about science and nature. It now offers weekly camps through the summer and can be rented for weddings and retreats.

POLICE TAKE ON CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT

The Ripon Police Department announced that a free Operation Etch & Catch event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon April 25 at Les Schwab Tire Center, 750 N. Jack Tone Road, Ripon. Owners of Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs can have their vehicle’s license plate number etched on their catalytic converters to guard against theft. This part of the emission control system has been targeted by thieves because it contains small amounts of precious metals. Toyotas have been especially vulnerable to theft.
