DENHAM TO HOST ART CONTEST RECEPTION

Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, will host the 2015 Congressional Art Competition reception for participating students and teachers Wednesday at Mistlin Art Gallery, 1015 J St., Modesto. Denham’s Modesto office received 35 submissions from 10th District high school students, and voting took place on his Facebook page. Denham will announce the top three winners during the reception. Participating high schools include Enochs, Patterson, Merrill West, Kimball, Turlock, Pitman, Ripon, Central Catholic, Modesto, Keyes Charter and Wilberforce Prep. The first-place winner will have his or her artwork sent to Washington, D.C., where it will be displayed for the next year in the pedestrian walkway leading to the Capitol. Second- and third-place winners can display their art in Denham’s Modesto office.

ANIMAL SERVICES COMMITTEE HAS VACANCIES

The Stanislaus Animal Services Agency board is seeking applicants to fill two openings on the Animal Services Advisory Committee – one representative from Waterford and one from Stanislaus County. The seven-member advisory committee meets on the first Thursday of January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November at 6 p.m. Animal Services is at 3647 Cornucopia Way in Modesto, just off Crows Landing Road between Service and Hackett roads. BANK OFFERS DAY OF FREE DOCUMENT SHREDDING

To help fight identity theft, Central Valley Community Bank is offering free document shredding in Modesto on April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. A maximum of four banker boxes per person or business will be accepted. Submit paper only – binders, metal clips and other material that cannot be shredded must be removed in advance. This is the ninth year the bank has offered the free service. The shredding will be at its Modesto branch, 2020 Standiford Ave., Suite H. To learn more, call (209) 576-1402.

ETCH & CATCH IN RIPON FOR TOYOTA TRUCKS, SUVs

The Ripon Police Department announced that a free Operation Etch & Catch event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon April 25 at Les Schwab Tire Center, 750 N. Jack Tone Road, Ripon. Owners of Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs can have their vehicle’s license plate number etched on their catalytic converters. To learn more, call Ripon police at (209) 599-2102.
