What: HOME AND GARDEN SALE EVENT

Where: American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, 3440 McHenry Ave., Suite A-12

Info: The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is holding its annual Home and Garden Event featuring live plants of many varieties, including dish gardens and live art. Shop hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. All profits go to research and patient services. For more information, call (209) 544-9279.

What: SCIENCE PRESENTATION

Info: The Modesto Area Partners in Science will offer a presentation on “Ocean Acidification: The Other CO2 Problem,” by Tessa Hill, associate professor and chancellor’s fellow in Earth and planetary sciences at UC Davis. The presentation will explore the basics of ocean acidification and share research on its impact on marine ecosystems. The free program is intended for those over 12 years of age. What: SCHOLARSHIP BUS TRIP FUNDRAISER

When: April 17-18, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Info: The Beyer High School Alumni Association is hosting a Reno Fun Bus fundraising trip to raise money for a scholarship to benefit a current or future Beyer High School student. BYO drinks on the bus, food tickets available and gambling coupons upon arrival at the Silver Legacy. Cost is $50 for bus ride; $60 for bus ride plus a steak or chicken burrito bag. What: VOLUNTEER TAX PREPARATION

When: Monday, 1 to 5 p.m.

Where: Ceres Community Center Computer Lab, 2701 Fourth St.

Info: State Controller Betty T. Yee will host free individualized tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for people with household incomes of $53,000 or less. Sen. Anthony Cannella will co-host. Help will be available in English and Spanish from IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers. Appointments are required; call (209) 581-9827.


Oakdale

What: WOMEN’S CONNECTION LUNCHEON

When: Thursday, noon to 1:45 p.m.

Where: Papapolloni, 1214 W. F St.

Info: The Oakdale Women’s Connection luncheon will feature Jennifer Rose, owner of Cowgirl Couture Clothing Store, offering “Designer Jeans, Boots and Accessories.” The guest speaker will be Barbara Carr, preschool teacher, educator and developer of Black Studies. Carr will describe her journey to overcome depression and stand up to greater accomplishments. Lunch and program cost $18; reservations appreciated. 100 YEARS AGO: A return engagement of the show “Everywoman” would be at the Modesto Theater on April 6. The show featured a 150-piece orchestra that traveled the country.
