Firefighters battle early morning apartment fire in Modesto
Firefighters called to the scene of an apartment fire early Thursday managed to contain the blaze to one vacant unit.
According to the Modesto Fire Department, the fire was reported at 2:46 a.m. at the Orange Garden apartments in the 100 block of East Orangeburg Avenue.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a second-floor apartment of the two-story building. Firefighters confined the blaze to a single apartment, though a neighboring apartment sustained some heat and smoke damage.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
