What: NEIGHBORHOOD HYMN SINGALONG

YESTERYEARS

40 YEARS AGO: Modesto native Bob Kalinich had won top honors in a powerlifting competition the previous weekend. Kalinich competed in the 165-pound division invitational open class for the Los Angeles Police Department powerlifting championships. The 30-year-old lifted 1,205 pounds total on three lifts to beat fellow competitor Marshal Victor of Los Angeles, the western champion, who had lifted 1,155 pounds. Kalinich’s efforts included: a 335-pound bench press, a 380-pound squat and a 490-pound dead lift.
