What: SONS IN RETIREMENT MEETING

When: Thursday, 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: The Seasons, 945 McHenry Ave.

Info: The Sons in Retirement, Branch 144, luncheon will feature guest speaker Chris Murphy, founder and publisher of ModestoView. Sons in Retirement is a club for retired men who meet to renew friendships, discuss issues and plan participation in activities such as golf, bowling, pickleball, dining and traveling. What: TELESCOPE NIGHT

When: Friday, 8 to 10 p.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College West Campus, Science Community Center, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Info: The Modesto Junior College Astronomy Club is hosting Telescope Night, at which community members will have the opportunity to learn about space, with telescope viewing staffed by club members. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the student-based club.

What: PLANETARIUM SHOWS

When: Friday, 8:10 and 9:10 p.m., and Saturday, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College West Campus, Science Community Center planetarium, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Info: MJC’s Great Valley Museum will host planetarium shows titled “Earth, Moon and Sun,” “Ultimate Universe” and “Tour of the Galaxy.” Planetarium show admission is $5, children under 4 not admitted. What: MARINE CORPS LEAGUE MEETING

When: Saturday, 9:45 a.m.

Where: American Legion Hall, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave.

YESTERYEARS

25 YEARS AGO: Capt. Don Olson, an 11-year veteran of the Marshal’s Office, was chosen by a Stanislaus County Municipal Court judge to replace longtime Marshal Robert Earl. Olson was chosen from among three applicants, all from within the department. Olson, then 42, was a native of Turlock with 20 years of law enforcement experience, including stints with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and Turlock Police Department.
