Stanislaus County
What: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Info: The Stanislaus County Area Agency on Aging is seeking interested volunteers to become “Peer 2 Peer” senior peer counselors. Peer 2 Peer volunteers provide emotional support to older adults going through difficult times related to grief and loss, health issues or other concerns. Volunteers from all parts of the county are needed. They must be 55 or older and attend a 30-hour training consisting of 10 three-hour classes. The next class will be held April 7 through May 7, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The training sessions include many professional guest lecturers. Modesto
What: SCRAPBOOKING FUN
When: Saturday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Modesto branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 1500 I St.
Info: Join the Modesto library and local scrapbooker Anna Soto at a free program to learn about and practice scrapbooking. Some materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own, and to bring pictures. Free prizes are given out at every program. Patterson
What: FAMILY GAME DAY
When: Wednesday, 3:30 p.m.
Where: Patterson branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 46 N. Salado
Info: Participants may visit the library for games and crafts. All ages are welcome. Games promote sharing, working together and problem-solving skills. For more information, call the Patterson library at (209) 892-6473.

What: GARDEN CLUB MEETING
When: Wednesday, 10 a.m.

Info: The Ripon Garden Club’s April meeting will feature guest speaker Heidi Clark, who will give a presentation on “What is New for Your Backyard Vegetable and Flower Gardens.” The event is free and open to the public. YESTERYEARS
50 YEARS AGO: The Ceres Elementary School District trustees approved $1,662.60 to install awnings from the C Thru Aluminum Awning Co. The new awnings would span the southern exposure, 663 feet total, of the Carroll Fowler School, to protect students from the heat of the sun.
