Twain Harte woman dies from injuries suffered in crash

A Twain Harte woman has died from injuries suffered in a crash Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to a CHP news release, Celea Janka, 84, was a passenger in a 2004 Audi A4 driven by Kazimierz Janka, 90, also of Twain Harte. The Audi was headed east on Highway 108, stopped to make a left turn onto Twain Harte Drive.

Lisa Sandberg, 44, of Pinecrest, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban west on Highway 108 at roughly 45 mph. The Audi turned in front of the Surburban, authorities said, and the two cars collided, the Suburban striking the passenger’s side of the Audi. The accident was reported at 4:25 p.m.

Sandberg saw the Audi and tried to stop but couldn’t, the CHP said. Celea Janka was flown to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, where she died from her injuries. Kazimier Janka suffered a cut to her hand. Sandberg had a complaint of pain to her legs; a 10-yer-old girl riding in the Suburban was not hurt.

Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
