MODESTO PLANNING PANEL TO CONSIDER DOWNTOWN ZONING

Modesto’s Planning Commission is expected Monday to take up a proposal to rezone downtown based on what is called form-based code principles, which emphasize a building’s form over its function, and planners will get a briefing on how much land Modesto has for homes, stores and industry. Staff is asking the commission to recommend that the Modesto City Council adopt the form-based principles. Officials say the objective is to foster a larger range of uses and stimulate development. A city report states that the city of Modesto in general has sufficient land set aside for development. The commission meets at 6 p.m. in the basement chamber of Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St.
