What: GENEALOGY SOCIETY MEETING

Info: The Genealogy Society of Stanislaus County meeting will feature guest speaker Lewis Ruddick, past president of GSSC, talking about his recent trip to Northern Ireland and his discovery of long-lost family using history and DNA technology. Info: The mission of the Modesto Parkinson’s Support Group is to provide education and emotional support for all who live with Parkinson’s disease. The meeting will feature an exercise session specific to Parkinson’s, a DMV presentation on driving, and Parkinson’s and individual circles of sharing for patients and their caregivers. Info: A panel discussion on “Ending the Culture of Violence on School and College Campuses” will feature local public safety officials, college representatives and mental health professionals. It is coordinated by the American Association of University Women and sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education; League of Women Voters; and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key women educators. Info: A Modesto Area Partners in Science program titled “Seeing Possibilities, Making a Difference: Why Outdoor Education is Good for Our Community” will be presented by MJC professor emerita of biological sciences Lynn Hansen. The event is free and open to the public. Prior to the presentation, the Great Valley Museum will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. for viewing exhibits and learning about volunteer opportunities. 100 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Modesto would be an official stop for the third transcontinental automobile entrance into California. Secretary of the Interior Franklin K. Lane said the Old Tioga Road will be made the connecting link.
