Pedestrian hit by car, suffers major injuries in Modesto

Police are investigating an incident that left a 24-year-old Modesto man in critical condition late Wednesday.

According to Modesto police traffic Officer Scott Nelson, the incident occurred at 11:43 p.m. The man, whose name was not released, was crossing Prescott Road near Mount Vernon Drive in central Modesto. A 2009 Toyota Corolla heading south on Prescott hit the pedestrian.

The man suffered a broken pelvis, femur and left tibia, and severe head trauma, Nelson said in a news release. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police interviewed the driver of the Corolla at the scene. He was identified only as a 44-year-old Modesto man. Nelson said the man was not hurt.

There is no indication drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident, authorities said.

Investigators ask anyone with information about the pedestrian or who may have seen the incident to contact traffic Officer Brian Ferguson at (209) 652-0059 or fergusonb@modestopd.com
