YESTERYEARS

40 YEARS AGO: The directors of the Modesto Irrigation District approved a 5 percent, across-the-board, increase in electric power rate that would take effect in July. The increase would have added 52 cents per month to the average household bill, increasing from $10.51 to $11.03. The increase would have improved the districts financial position for the sale of $5 million worth of five-year warrants to help finance projects.
