What: DEMOCRATIC WOMEN’S CLUB MEETING

Info: The Democratic Women’s Club of Stanislaus general meeting will feature guest speaker Nancy Fisher, president of the Stanislaus Commission on Women, who in celebration of Women’s History Month will present a historical portrait of women. Belinda Rolicheck will provide information on the Haven Women’s Center event “Haven Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” Other guests will be Virginia Madueño, Assembly District 12 candidate, and Sonia Bustamante, who will give a Nerium skin care overview. What: NEWCOMERS AND FRIENDS CLUB MEETING

When: Wednesday, 10 a.m.

Where: Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 3500 Coffee Road

Info: The Newcomers and Friends Club of Modesto is a social club that gives women the opportunity to meet others with similar interests. It is open to anyone. The group also holds a monthly no-host luncheon at a local restaurant. For more information, call Barbara at (209) 551-2968.

What: WALNUT NEWS PROGRAM

When: Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon

Where: Stanislaus County Ag Center, Harvest Hall, 3800 Cornucopia Way

Info: The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources Cooperative Extension presents the 45th annual Quad-County Walnut Institute. Oakdale

What: WOMEN’S CONNECTION LUNCHEON

When: Thursday, noon to 1:45 p.m.

Where: Papapolloni Restaurant, 1214 W. F St.

Info: The Oakdale Women’s Connection luncheon features a presentation from Fenton Nursery on preparing for spring gardening. The guest speaker is Diana Farling. Lunch and program cost $18. Escalon

What: ACCORDION MUSIC AND SOCIAL

Patterson

What: TREE PLANTING EVENT

When: Wednesday, 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Where: Felipe Garza Park, North Hartley Street at Lorelei Lane

Info: The Patterson Public Works Department is holding a local tree planting event to celebrate California Arbor Week. Trees will be planted by volunteers. The city is providing participants an opportunity to be educated about trees, their uses, maintenance and related factors. The event is open to the public. For more information, call (209) 895-8060.

YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: The first session of The Bee’s annual spring cooking school was to be held the next day in the Strand Theater at 2p.m. Host Katherine Kitchen, home economist for McClatchy Newspapers, presented a parade of spring foods. The program was free, and all Modesto district women were invited to attend.
