Student entries sought for Congressional Art Competition

U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, is inviting all high school students in the 10th Congressional District to participate in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.

The district’s grand prize winner will have his or her art displayed in the Cannon Tunnel inside the nation’s Capitol in Washington for the next year. In addition, the winner also may be offered a scholarship to pay for travel to Washington for the unveiling of the national winner of the competition.

Denham will determine his district’s grand prize winner by holding a contest on his Facebook page. In true democratic fashion, the winners will be determined by which submission has the most “likes.”

The second- and third-place winners will have their art displayed in Denham’s Modesto district office.

The artwork must not be larger than 28 by 28 by 4 inches and must be an original piece of art by the student.

All artwork must be submitted to the congressman’s Modesto office, 4701 Sisk Road, Suite 202, by March 20 at 5 p.m.

The Facebook voting period runs from March 23 to April 3.

Last year’s 10th Congressional District grand-prize winner was Madison Tessera, a senior at West High School in Tracy.
