Hughson City Hall was promptly closed Tuesday following an exposure to a positive COVID-19 case, city officials said.

Mayor George Carr said the city administrative offices will be closed to the public the remainder of this week. The small city plans to open the doors again Monday for normal business, he said.

Services such as public works and law enforcement remain in operation, while city offices are closed to the public.

“We do want to take care of our citizens and we will look out for their safety,” Carr said.

Carr said he was informed one staff member at City Hall tested positive.

City Manager Merry Mayhew said by email a quick decision was made to close the offices after learning of the COVID exposure. She said she wasn’t at liberty to provide additional information regarding the exposure or the number of staff affected, due to privacy concerns.

“Closing City Hall was the safest action that we could take while continuing to provide basic city services,” Mayhew said.

County and state health officials say the omicron variant of coronavirus is spreading rapidly.

Large cities such as San Francisco are running into short-staffing due to infections among employees and quarantines, according to a KQED report Wednesday.
