Turlock nursing home announces 19th coronavirus death. Positive tests stand at 156

Another resident of the Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has died of the coronavirus, the center announced Tuesday, bringing the total to 19.

The East Tuolumne Road center also said in an online update that 101 residents and 55 employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Those figures have leveled off since mid-May.

Total deaths in Stanislaus County remained at 28 as of Tuesday, suggesting that the latest death at the nursing home was someone from another county.

670 cases countywide

Stanislaus had a total of 670 positive tests as of Tuesday, the county Health Services Agency reported. Another 11,450 residents tested negative.

The county was among many in California where hair salons and barber shops can reopen as of Tuesday under the state’s easing of rules aimed at controlling the pandemic. That followed the reopening of indoor dining and retail last week.

Officials cautioned that people still need to keep at least 6 feet from non-household members and carefully wash their hands and often-touched surfaces.

Nursing home measures

Tuesday’s update said the Turlock center continues to treat positive and negative patients in separate wings. It screens employees for symptoms before they start each shift and provides them with masks, gloves and other protections.

The center reported that 31 residents and 15 staff members have recovered from COVID-19. It is owned by Covenant Care, based in Aliso Viejo, Orange County.
