Coronavirus deaths at Turlock nursing home reach 16; positive tests at 150
Two more residents at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have died of the coronavirus, the center announced Thursday. The total is now 16.
The East Tuolumne Road center said in an online update that 100 residents and 50 employees have tested positive for the virus. It is owned by Covenant Care, based in Aliso Viejo, Orange County.
The center accounts for about two-thirds of the 23 deaths to COVID-19 in Stanislaus County, and over a quarter of the 537 positive tests as of Thursday.
COVID-19 deaths tied to the Turlock center include Janet Wilmeth, 78, of Mariposa, who died Wednesday. Her husband, Jack Wilmeth, told The Modesto Bee that she had left the facility three weeks ago but was not tested there.
Safety measures
The Turlock center again cited precautions it is taking with the pandemic. It has separate wings for positive and negative residents. It screens employees for symptoms upon arrival and supplies them with masks, gloves and other protective gear.
The deaths continue to rise even as county officials move to ease some of the rules aimed at controlling the virus. Residents are still urged to carefully wash hands and touched surfaces and to stay a least 6 feet from non-household members.
