Stanislaus County announces 22nd death from coronavirus; cases stand at 517

Stanislaus County reported its 22nd death to the coronavirus Tuesday, a woman at least 50 years old.

The county’s total cases stood at 517 in the latest update from the Health Services Agency.

Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center announced no deaths Tuesday after reporting Monday that the total had risen from 11 residents to 14. Tuesday’s update said 100 residents and 49 employees have tested positive for the virus.

Fourteen percent of the county residents who died were 50 to 64 years old. The rest were 65 or older.

Supervisors’ action

The county’s announcement came a few hours after its Board of Supervisors voted to not enforce some of the state restrictions on business amid the pandemic.

But county officials continued to stress the importance of hand hygiene and of keeping at least 6 feed from non-household members.
