Two more residents of Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have died from the coronavirus, the center announced Friday. The total now stands at 11.

The ages and genders of the deceased people were not disclosed in the latest online update from the East Tuolumne Road center. It said 95 residents and 38 employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Sadly eleven current and former residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have passed away,” the update said.

Countywide deaths

The countywide death total was last reported at 19 by the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency on Thursday. It was unclear Friday whether the latest Turlock center deaths were part of that.

The center is owned by Covenant Care, based in Aliso Viejo, Orange County. After the virus turned up, the staff created separate wings for positive and negative residents. Employees are screened upon arriving for work and use masks, gloves and other protective gear.

488 positive tests

The county reported 488 residents who have tested positive as of Friday. All of the deaths as of Thursday were people 50 or older.

Officials continue to remind residents of the safeguards still needed even if some forms of retail and recreation open up. This includes careful washing of hands and touched surfaces, and staying at least 6 feet from people not in their household.
