Stanislaus County reports 15th coronavirus death; Turlock facility now has eight
Stanislaus County reported its 15th death from the coronavirus Monday, and Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center announced that eight residents have now died.
The county’s 15th death was a man with underlying medical conditions, the county Health Services Agency said in a news release. All 14 of the previous deaths also were adults with underlying conditions.
Stanislaus had 428 residents who tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday. A total of 6,234 people have been tested, a number that will grow with the testing sites that launched Monday in Keyes and Patterson.
Turlock update
The Turlock center said in an online update Monday that 71 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus and 51 tested negative. Thirty employees have tested positive and 134 negative. The first two deaths were reported April 27.
The center said it has devoted separate wings to the care of the positive and negative cases. It also screens employees as they start work and supplies them with the needed masks and other protections.
“Providing for the safety and well-being of our residents and staff remains our paramount priority,” said Monday’s update. The East Tuolumne Road center is owned by Covenant Care, based Aliso Viejo, Orange County.
Familiar advice
The announcements came on the same day that Gov. Gavin Newsom said certain curbside retail could be allowed by the end of the week, such as clothing, book and flower shops.
But Stanislaus health officials said residents still need to follow the advice on curbing COVID-19. This includes washing hands and frequently touched surfaces well. It also means keeping at least 6 feet from people not in their household when at grocery stores, parks or other locations.
