Stanislaus County records biggest daily jump in coronavirus cases. Two more have died
Stanislaus County recorded its largest daily jump in confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday. The county also reported two additional deaths, bringing the region’s total to 13.
A total of 374 people in the county have tested positive for the virus, officials said Thursday afternoon. That was an increase of 35 cases, up from 339 on Wednesday.
Most of the new cases – 32 of them – came from Turlock, where an outbreak has sickened dozens of residents and staff at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. That was also the source of one of the deaths, the center said in an update posted on its website Thursday afternoon.
Of those positive cases, 238 people have recovered. Negative tests total 5,244.
New testing sites coming to Patterson, Keyes
County officials hope to increase coronavirus testing next week with two new sites, one in Keyes and one in Patterson. Those will complement a site opened last week in Salida.
The new sites will be operated by a company called Optum, Stanislaus County OES spokesman Royjinder Singh said.
Officials hope to have the sites open early next week. “The bright side is the company is self-sufficient,” Singh said. “All we had to provide is a location.”
The Keyes site is at the town’s community center; Patterson’s will be at its senior center.
Testing will be more broadly available; currently, a doctor’s recommendation is required. Singh said there will be some kind of a registration process, but people will be able to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms.
“We are still working on the details,” he said.
