Apartment fire in Stanislaus County displaces five adults, kills a cat and a dog
A fire in Turlock on Tuesday night displaced five people and killed two pets, according to the Turlock Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Wayside Drive at about 10:20 p.m. and found an apartment building “with smoke and flames showing,” according to an incident report. The area is about half a mile north of downtown Turlock.
An “aggressive fire attack” was initiated against the main fire building, according to the report.
As a result of the fire, five adults were displaced. One cat and one dog were found dead while another dog was rescued. The American Red Cross was requested and is assisting those displaced, according to Capt. Jason Bernard with the Turlock Fire Department.
While one building was deemed uninhabitable, other surrounding residences were without power and gas as of Wednesday afternoon. Bernard said inspectors from Pacific Gas & Electric and Turlock Irrigation District would come on Thursday. Following an inspection, the gas and electricity could be turned back on.
The Stanislaus County Fire Investigations Unit was dispatched.
