California wildfires near Los Angeles can be seen burning from space, dramatic video shows

The fires burning across Los Angeles County look alarming even from space.

More than a thousand homes, businesses and other buildings have burned and at least two people are dead in the destructive firestorms, as of Wednesday morning.

Satellite video from @CIRA_CSU shows the fires raging and smoke billowing from high above, and reveal how Southern California’s strong Santa Ana winds created critical fire weather conditions on Tuesday.

“A dire situation is unfolding tonight as wildfires rage in Southern California,” CIRA wrote in a post on X on Tuesday. “Communities continue to be significantly impacted by the Palisades and Eaton Fires.”

The Palisades fire in Pacific Palisades have charred more than 5,000 acres and 1,000 structures, including homes, as of Wednesday morning, according to media reports and fire officials.

The Eaton fire had burned more than 2,200 acres near Altadena and Pasadena. Wind gusts blew up to 99 mph. Two people have died in the Eaton fire.
