Shooting near River Park shopping center sends two to hospital, Fresno police say
A shooting near the River Park shopping center in north Fresno sent two people to the hospital early Tuesday morning.
Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the department got calls of a shooting around 4:15 a.m. near Blackstone and Nees avenues.
Three victims were traveling south on Blackstone from Nees when an unknown number suspects fired into the vehicle, Trueba Vega said.
The driver, a 25-year-old woman, wasn’t injured.
The front passenger, a 21-year-old man, was shot in his upper torso.
A third victim, a 23-year-old man sitting in the backseat, was shot in both of his legs.
Trueba Vega said the victims self-transported to the hospital. The victim shot in the torso is in stable condition, and the victim who was shot in the legs was released after being treated.
Trueba Vega said the shooting was not a random incident, as police say there was a brief confrontation between the suspects and victims near Palm and Nees avenues.
The suspects were in two vehicles, a black car and a silver car, Trueba Vega said.
While traveling eastbound on Nees Avenue after the confrontation, the victims noticed the silver vehicle following them. The victims then turned onto Blackstone shortly before the shooting.
Police are continuing to investigate and temporarily blocked off a portion of Blackstone Avenue near River Park while searching the area.
