  • Moses McQueen’s, Starving Artist offer patios with full bars, Strada has beer and wine

If there’s one thing Fresno does well, it’s patio dining.

Our warm weather means plenty of placid nights watching the sun go down over a good meal and a glass of wine. And with the forecast calling for highs in the 80s and low 90s this weekend, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of al fresco dining.

Since many people know about the patios at places such as Saizon and El Patio, we thought we’d focus on the newbies, the restaurants that are opening up their patios for their first summer season.

Here are five to check out.

Il Caffè at Enzo’s Table

A patio space is available for customers to enjoy the traditional Italian espresso drinks, coffees and baked goods at Il Caffè inside Enzo's Table in The Avenue complex in northwest Clovis.

Il Caffè is the Italian-inspired coffee shop that opened last winter at the new Enzo’s Table in Clovis. It’s at the southeast corner of Willow and Shepherd avenues at the newly constructed The Avenue at Heritage Grove .

Il Caffè has a large patio with a view of greenery and olive trees. The tables are shaded from the summertime afternoon sun and it has a fireplace for wintertime.

Customers can sip the popular honey latte or any of the Italian wines Il Caffè also serves. The European-style coffee shop also serves breakfast and lunch.

It also has a store selling Enzo’s Table products, including its award-winning olive oils.

Willow Osteria

Directly next door to Il Caffè is Willow Osteria, an upscale Italian spot by local restaurateur Jimmy Pardini.

The patio here faces west, giving diners a perfect view of the sunset behind the olive trees. It has shades so you’re not blinded, and misters and fans to keep it cool. You can specifically make a reservation online to sit on the patio.

The restaurant specializes in pasta made in house daily and other Italian dishes. Several of its appetizers are ideal for hot weather dining, including the marinated tuna crudo (raw tuna served with a tomato vinaigrette and olives), perhaps with wine or a cocktail (either full strength or zero proof).

Reservations are highly recommended here.

Moses McQueen’s

The backyard area at Moses McQueen’s is the main gathering space for the bar in downtown Fresno. It will have outdoor bar service as well as games, music and a restroom.

Moses McQueen’s, a bar serving food in an old house in downtown Fresno, has more than a patio, it has a big backyard to hang out in.

The century old home in the former Armenian Town has a deck, a balcony and tables under shade trees hung with twinkle lights. There’s plenty of room for games like cornhole.

There’s a food truck to order from, with a menu featuring burgers, wings, tacos and salads.

And of course, there are all kinds of cocktails and beer.

Starving Artist Bistro

Starving Artist Bistro has reopened with new owners and a new menu, with a patio out front.

Starving Artist Bistro isn’t technically brand new, but it reopened in January after closing in 2024.

The music-themed restaurant and bar is at Friant and Fort Washington roads, in the RiverView shopping center. Its patio is in front of the business, complete with a fountain, big glass walls that open to the patio and plenty of people-watching with all the nearby businesses.

It has a new chef, with lots of burgers, appetizers and salads on the menu. It’s got a full bar, too.

This business is all about live music, with either scheduled guest performers or open mic musicians on the indoor stage on Thursdays through Sundays. Many customers opt for the patio when they want to hear the music and still have a conversation.

Strada Italian Sandwiches

Plenty of outdoor seating is available on the patio at Strada, an Italian-style sandwich shop, opening in the Park Crossing shopping center at Friant and Audubon.

Strada is the latest restaurant by Jimmy Pardini, who also opened Willow and The Annex Kitchen. It’s right next to his Annesso Pizzeria at Friant Road and Fresno Street.

The patio here is little and casual, but its red-and-white striped umbrellas give it a European flair.

The restaurant serves Italian sandwiches with prime ingredients. Think creamy fresh mozzarella and Tuscan salami, served on focaccia bread baked in house daily, sprinkled with olive oil and dusted with sea salt.

You can also get wine, Italian beer, or maybe a Strada spritz. The sandwiches and wine are a pairing straight from Pardini’s time in Italy.
