Ex-Cal Guard reservist who leaked info to drug dealer convicted in weapons case

in the courts

A federal jury in Sacramento found guilty a former California National Guard reservist and Counterdrug Task Force member of unlawful firearms possession Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Ruby Celly Uribe, 37, of Sacramento, was convicted of unlawfully possessing a machine gun and an unregistered short-barreled rifle. The former Antelope resident was arrested by the FBI on a weapons possession charge in January 2024. She previously worked in the logistics shop at California National Guard headquarters in Mather and served on the Counterdrug Task Force, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Court documents and evidence presented at trial showed Uribe leaked information about upcoming drug raids to known drug dealers and trafficked unregistered firearms while serving on the task force, prosecutors in U.S. Attorney Eric Grant’s office said.

Authorities conducted a fake marijuana raid briefing in November 2022 and recovered text messages between Uribe and a drug dealer in which she disclosed sensitive information about upcoming operations, including dates, locations and the military vehicles and aircraft involved, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A federal search warrant executed at Uribe’s residence uncovered a privately made short-barreled rifle without a serial number that had been modified to fire in full-automatic mode, functioning as a machine gun. Known as a “ghost gun,” the weapon was among several unregistered firearms investigators said Uribe trafficked. Evidence recovered from her cellphone showed she sold other ghost guns, including one to a coworker in July 2022, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

During the trial, the FBI also determined Uribe had sold another illegal firearm in August 2022. That firearm has since been recovered.

Uribe is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 11. She faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
