Popular Lake Tahoe beach will soon require reservations. Here’s how to secure a spot
A big change is coming to one of Lake Tahoe’s most popular beaches.
Starting this summer, the popular Sand Harbor at Incline Village, Nevada, will begin implementing a reservation system to manage the summer crowds, according to a news release from the Nevada Division of State Parks.
Here’s what you need to know:
Which days will Sand Harbor require a reservation?
Starting Aug. 17 through Oct. 13, visitors will be required to have a reservation to enter Sand Harbor State Park on weekends and holidays.
“This initial trial period will help staff and visitors adjust to the new procedures, with full implementation set for April 2025,” the Nevada Division of State Parks said in the release.
Where can I make a reservation for Sand Harbor?
Visitors can make reservations online.
Reservations will cost $5, according to the news release. Same-day booking fees are waived.
To accommodate visitors without reservations, entry after 10:30 a.m. will be on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on park capacity.
Entrance fees for the park start at $10.
The park opens at 7 a.m. and closes one hour after sunset.
Why are reservations required?
“Visitation has increased dramatically at parks such as Sand Harbor over the past decade, resulting in increased public safety risks and extended wait times for parking spaces,” the Nevada State Parks website said.
Limited parking and high visitation have resulted in unsafe, illegal parking on highways. This system will better visitor experience while protecting and preserving the park’s natural grounds.
“The reservation system will better manage visitation levels, allow visitors to plan their trip in advance, and reduce overcrowding,” the website said.
