Best burger in California? ‘Gooey cheese’ draws rave reviews at this spot, Yelp says
This cheeseburger spot in California is known (and loved) for carefully handcrafting smash burger patties and loading them up with “gooey cheese,” secret sauce and even crispy bacon.
That attention to detail helped Los Angeles burger joint For The Win live up to its name — winning the title for the best cheeseburger in the state, based on Yelp results published Sept. 1.
To find the best cheeseburger in each state, Yelp looked at reviews for businesses in the food and restaurants category that mentioned “cheeseburger.” Then, each spot was ranked based on the total number and ratings of those reviews between Jan. 1 and July 20.
What do fans love about the burgers?
The patties are smashed with grilled onions and served on a toasted potato bun with pickles and “homemade fry sauce,” Yelp said in a Sept. 18 video on Instagram. The restaurant also offers crispy fried Brussels sprouts and french fries.
In the report, Yelp included a review from someone named GiGi P.: “The burger came cooked to perfection, crispy edges, gooey cheese and crispy bacon to top it off. It was delicious and filling.”
The restaurant was born out of a rebrand during COVID lockdowns, according to its website. Prior to that, it was Papilles Bistro — a Michelin Bib Gourmand French restaurant.
The owner says they spent months testing and experimenting “ground beef blends, buns, sauce recipes, and condiments” until they found “the most delicious combination.”
It paid off. On Yelp’s website, customers rave that the burgers are bursting with flavor “in every bite.”
One person dubbed the restaurant “The Ultimate Smash Burger Experience.”
