California is home to best doughnut shop in US — and 9 other top spots, Yelp says
Doughnut lovers in California are in luck because Yelp released the top places for the sweet treat in the U.S., and 10 shops in the state made the list.
One California doughnut shop even landed the No. 1 spot.
Yelp released its “Top 100 US Donut Shops 2023” ahead of National Donut Day on June 2. The holiday happens twice a year, once on the first Friday of June and again on Nov. 5.
The top 10 doughnut shops in California include:
- 1. Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon — Rocklin
- 3. JD Flannel Donuts and Coffee — San Juan Capistrano
- 4. Munchkins Donuts — Covina
- 7. The Jelly Donut — San Francisco
- 8. Stan’s Donut Shop — Santa Clara
- 9. Simone’s Donuts — Long Beach
- 14. Steve’s Donuts — Riverside
- 17. Marie’s Donuts — Sacramento
- 18. Glee Donuts & Burgers — Anaheim
- 20. Milkbomb Ice Cream — San Francisco
Yelp reviewers raved about Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon. This shop in Rocklin took the top spot and was praised for its “warm and welcoming atmosphere” and large selection of doughnuts, including croissant doughnuts.
“This new donut place is an absolute gem, and the perfect spot for anyone with a sweet tooth,” one reviewer said.
JD Flannel Donuts and Coffee in San Juan Capistrano was also a favorite among reviewers.
“These donuts are super fresh, fun flavors, beautiful presentation made with real ingredients,” a reviewer wrote.
Doughnut flavors include brown butter sea salt, festive vanilla, old fashioned, blueberry lemon, maple bacon and vanilla bean.
To find the top doughnut shops in the country, Yelp looked at businesses in the “donuts” category then ranked them on the “total volume and ratings of reviews,” among other factors, between Jan. 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.
