Two people were killed Tuesday in a rockslide at Yosemite National Park, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

Authorities have not released the names of the people who were killed, pending notification of families or next-of-kin. The circumstances behind the incident also have not been released.

“We do have two coroner cases that are a result of the rockslide,” said Mariposa County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Kristie Mitchell.

The incident happened before noon on Tuesday on Highway 140, which is also called El Portal Road. A portion of El Portal Road was closed for several hours after the rock slide. The road has since reopened.
