Hiker gets stranded on icy California trail until rescuers rush to help, video shows
A hiker became trapped on an icy trail in California and had to be airlifted out, officials said.
The hiker was stranded in the Angeles National Forest east of Islip Saddle, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, Dec. 18.
The department posted video footage of the rescue on Twitter. The clips show a tactical medic lowering from a helicopter onto the frosted forest floor, securing the hiker to the harness and lifting them into the rescue chopper.
Rescuers did not say if the hiker was injured. The department did not provide further information.
The Angeles National Forest covers nearly 700,000 acres in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
“The Angeles National Forest offers natural environments, spectacular scenery, developed campgrounds and picnic areas, swimming, fishing, skiing and the solitude of quiet wilderness areas,” forest rangers said on its website. “Trails winding throughout the forest accommodate hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers, and off-highway vehicle enthusiasts.”
