Shark attack leaves swimmer seriously injured, closes beach, California officials say
Update: The swimmer was identified as Steve Bruemmer. He suffered a broken femur in the shark attack and will not need an amputation, KION-TV reported.

A shark bit a swimmer and left the man with significant injuries at a California beach, authorities said.
The man was swimming at Lovers Point Beach on Wednesday, June 22, when the shark bit his stomach and leg, according to KRON and the Pacific Grove Police Department.
Witnesses saw the shark attack and tried to help the swimmer before authorities got to the beach at about 10:35 a.m.
The man was taken to the Natividad Hospital, police said.
A drone was used to scan the area for the shark, but it was not spotted and authorities will monitor the area.
Lovers Point and the Sea Palm turnout will be closed to the public until June 25 following the attack, police said.
“We want to express our gratitude and appreciation to the Good Samaritans that took immediate action and personal risk to assist the swimmer. We send our prayers and thoughts to the swimmer and their family,” police said in the release.
