Two school officials charged over failing to report sexual attacks, California cops say

Update: Rialto police arrested two assistant principals at Wilmer Amina Carter High School for failing to report sexual batteries on teen girls at the school to authorities as required of educators by state law, officials said in a news release. David Yang and Natasha Harris were booked into jail Wednesday, Feb. 23, with bail set at $150,000 each.

A Southern California high school failed to notify police for months about a 17-year-old boy accused of repeatedly sexually battering three teenage girls, authorities said.

A teenage girl first reported the assaults to Wilmer Amina Carter High School officials in September, but police only learned of the crimes Feb. 16, the Rialto Police Department reported in a news release.

The Rialto Unified School District will conduct an internal investigation as well, a spokesperson told The Sun.

“The safety and well-being of students is our No. 1 priority,” Syeda Jafri told the publication, saying the accusations are “taken with extreme seriousness.”

The 17-year-old has been cited with criminal charges pending in sexual batteries against two 15-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl at the school, police said in the news release.
