Where’s the best pizza in California? These 15 shops made Yelp’s nationwide list
Restaurants across California landed spots on Yelp’s top places to get pizza in the nation.
Fifteen joints from San Francisco to San Diego were included in Yelp’s “Top 100 Places for Pizza in the U.S.”
To create the list, Yelp ranked businesses in the pizza category on the “total volume and ratings of reviews” and other factors.
The Cheese Board Pizza shop in Berkeley ranked No. 1.
The shop opened in 1985 after getting the idea to make vegetarian pizzas with the cheeses sold from their main shop, The Cheese Board Collective.
From Thursday to Sunday, the pizza joint serves hot pizza with green sauce and salad from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to the business’s website.
Yelp reviewers raved about the green sauce.
“First off, get the GREEN sauce ... basically slurp worthy. And if you don’t finish it, you can definitely find food to pair it with, e.g. I used it with my leftover tamales and it was like chefs kiss,” one reviewer wrote.
Customers can also order partially baked pizza to bring home from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
The joint sells one pizza flavor each day, one reviewer wrote. And the shop uses organic and local ingredients “whenever possible.”
“They have introduced me to so many combinations of pizza toppings that I would have never even considered, and they always taste even better with their green sauce!” a Yelp reviewer said.
