Farmers, then fundraising – Why Donald Trump is visiting California’s Central Valley

President Donald Trump’s multi-day California trip continued Wednesday, with a visit to Bakersfield on the agenda.

Trump is expected to join House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, “to speak with hardworking farmers in the Central Valley about efforts to dramatically improve the supply and delivery of water in California and other Western states,” according to a White House statement.

Trump’s Bakersfield visit came as Gov. Gavin Newsom, a frequent Twitter foil of the president, delivered his State of the State address – one devoted almost entirely to homelessness.

Trump also is expected Wednesday to attend a fundraiser being hosted by Larry Ellison, founder and chief technology officer for Oracle. That fundraiser has drawn a protest petition from Oracle rank-and-file employees, who have called on Ellison to cancel the event.

On Tuesday, Trump met in Los Angeles with members of the 2028 Olympic Committee, drawing both protesters and supporters wherever he went, according to the Los Angeles Times.

On Thursday, Trump is expected travel to Las Vegas, where he will deliver remarks at the Hope for Prisoners graduation ceremony, “where he will highlight his administration’s efforts to provide previously-incarcerated Americans with second chances,” according to a White House statement.
