Drivers stop to snag frozen fish spilled from delivery truck, California cops say
A delivery truck heading uphill early Tuesday in San Diego lost its load of 60 to 80 frozen tuna onto the street when a latch came loose, the Los Angeles Times reports.
But before the spill could be cleaned up in the city’s Little Italy neighborhood, other drivers took advantage of the situation to make off with some of the enormous frozen fish, KSWB reported.
The company making the deliveries says onlookers stole four 70- to 80-pound fish worth $100 each, KGTV reported.
The 5:45 a.m. accident delayed trolley service on a set of tracks covered in fish and chunks of ice until it was cleared at 6:30 a.m., KSWB reported.
San Diego police posted photos of the mess on Twitter just after 6:30 a.m.
“Officers ran into a fishy situation on India street, but the road is clear now!” the post reads. “Have a great day!”
The company says it will examine the recovered fish and throw out any that are unusable, KGTV reported.
