Chilly storm snarls L.A. traffic, sparks mudslide fears and closes Disneyland early
A chilly Thanksgiving storm slamming California with icy rain and snow has Golden State residents “suffering together,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
“Suffering not because it’s going be that bad of a storm, but because the timing is so rotten,” says Kathy Hoxsie, a National Weather Service meteorologist, according to the publication. “The day before Thanksgiving, that’s really unfortunate.”
In Southern California, the storm threatens to close Interstate 5 over the Grapevine with up to six inches of snow expected Wednesday night, KCBS reports.
Residents in areas hit by wildfires last summer also fear the drenching rain may produce dangerous mudslides on hillsides denuded of vegetation by the flames, KABC reported.
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will both close an hour early Wednesday and Thursday nights because of the storm, the resort announced on Twitter.
“Grab your rain gear and join us for some fun,” the post reads.
Disneyland will close at 11 p.m. both nights, while Disney California Adventure will shut down at 10 p.m., KTLA reports.
Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood and Six Flags Magic Mountain have not yet announced schedule changes, according to the station.
Rain in Southern California is expected to grow heavier as Wednesday goes on, peaking in the late afternoon and evening, the Los Angeles Times reported. More showers and potential thunderstorms are forecast Thursday and Friday, with sunny skies returning Saturday.
