Owners of downtown Modesto restaurant announce closure, reveal what’s coming next
The owners of a downtown Modesto restaurant have announced that it has closed, three years after they took it over from a popular Modesto chef.
Tye Bauer sold Bauer’s Downtown Gastropub to Monica Barocio and Lazaro Jimenez in January 2023. The married couple also owned Sazon Por Tradicion in Riverbank at the time.
When they reopened the downtown Modesto restaurant in February 2023, they named it Bauer’s by Sazon, keeping a lot of Bauer’s’ favorites on the menu.
“We want to thank all of our customers who have supported us throughout the years,” a post on Bauer’s by Sazon’s Instagram page reads. “Our time has come to an end, but we want to express our deepest gratitude for your years of preference.”
Barocio and Jiminez also closed their Riverbank restaurant sometime between July 2024 when it was last inspected by the Stanislaus County Health Department and April 2025 when Carnitas Michoacan applied for an ownership change at the location.
With the announcement of Bauer’s by Sazon’s closure, it was also revealed what is coming next to the building at 822 9th St. in Modesto.
